PUDHIYA PARAVAI @ SHANTHI

Nadigar Thilagam Dr. Chevalier Sivaji Ganesan reversed the needles of the clock in his inimitable style and took each and every one of us who were present there @ Shanthi theatre last Sunday evening, back to 1964.

In the recent past, I have gone to see the re-releases of Thangappadakkam, Engal Thanga Raja and Pasa Malar and I’ve enjoyed it immensely, as I’ve said here already. But this event was an entirely amazing experience for me. It was non-stop excitement, fun and emotional outburst all the way. It was very much heart-warming and touching to see the hard core, die-hard elderly fans, most of them in their late 50’s and early 60’s, dancing, jumping, hugging each other, getting emotional now and then and shouting slogans. a BIG SALUTE to all of them

Group of fans, in fairly large numbers, came down all the way from Bangalore and Pondicherry in vans, exclusively for this great occasion. Pammalar introduced a person who has come from Cuddalore only to take part in this historic event.

The theatre wore a festive look with lots and lots of posters, banners & cut-outs of NT all over the place. In the main entrance there was a huge cut-out which was beautifully decorated with garlands ( thanks to Pammalar sir & Raghavendra sir for the clippings and links ).

On Sunday, I went to the theatre at about 4.30 p.m. and it was at that time the Bangalore fan group was bringing in the huge garland in a sort of procession style, accompanied by a local band group. The garland is said to weigh around 300 kgs and the length would approximately be 35-45 feet. While the fans enthusiastically began to tie the huge garland around the big cut-out, the band was playing NT’s hit songs (mostly Ennadi Rakamma) while another fan group was bursting 10,000 wallah’s.

Around 6 pm, “ SHANTHI HOUSE FULL “ board was kept near the main entrance. The fans felt very proud and you can see a very contended smile of their face.
