Most of the unreleased demos (above) can be found on peer-to-peer networks (KaZaa, LimeWire, etc.). The reason I post this info. now is that there's been a sudden influx of tracks/demos never heard before and I've noticed there's a lot of Guns n' Roses fans on here.
Here's my opinion of what I've heard so far:
=
Madagascar
rocks, if you get the chance to d/l anything, download that.
= Axl Rose has lost some of his voice (as seen at the MTV
VMA
s in 2002). As a result, he's altered the music's pace so he can deliver on the vocals-side of things. He can still sing well. There's no doubt about that. But don't expect him to pull out any high-pitched tones like in
Paradise City
or
Welcome to the Jungle
.
= The music sounds like the old Guns n' Roses toned down a tad on the vocals (as said before) with a very 'electric' feel. The majority of the new songs sound pretty good. Another favorite is
Crash Diet
for it's profound electric solos at the end and catchy lyrics.
= The album feels like a combination of
Use Your Illusion I
and
II
. In the sense that the lyrics are idealistic and not shallow like their previous hit,
Appetite for Destruction
. And the material doesn't stick to one specific rock style (grunge, hard rock and soft rock can all be found in amongst the new material). The songs also differ in pace.
= I'm pleased with the way the band is progressing. The Buckethead absence will need someone to fill the void. But if the band can get over that road block, they will be good as gold.
= If anyone's interested in d/l'ing some of their new material. Here's my recommendations:
1.
Madagascar
- beautiful song that sounds like a cross between
Civil War
and
November Rain
.
2.
Crash Diet
- faced-past power ballad. Axl does a good job with the vocals here. Listen for the solos too.
3.
Chinese Democracy
- sounds like classic Gn'R. The lyrics are somewhat vague but makes you think
Axl's a really complex guy
.
4.
Shadow of Your Love
- great song. Has a little 'soft' feel like
Madagascar
.
5.
Oklahoma
- another power ballad. Has a profound 'grunge' sound to it. The vocals sound....different (they don't sound like Axl in his previous albums). But overall, it's a good song.
