Just back from watching the film. Thought I could catch Nadodigal at Collesium, but no longer playing. Playing this instead.
What do I think? Well, let's put it this way. If all the cast were Americans, it would have been a average B-Grade direct to DVD thriller. The subject is disturbing: Child abuse. But the film hardly is...except for right after it ended when the director chose to share with us the statistics on child abuse all around the world, and finally pointing out that India has the largest number of child abuse.
Which begs the question, why shoot it in US? Okay, it has some nice dialogues concerning Indians living in sub-urban USA. NRI's can relate to the couple and their dilema. But as for the subject matter it could have happened anywhere.
The film looks normal for those who've had been exposed to early 90s Hollywood thriller like Pacific Heights or Unlawful Entry. I was jolted twice throughout the film, twice no thanks to the noise (same thing they did in Yavarum Nalam). Climax is same like the films I mentioned.
Anyway, the cinematography was pretty nifty, fresh. Performance? Sneha was good. Prasanna was good in scenes playing husband to Sneha. But not during the supposed tensed sequence. I guess this is where the lead player has to play an important part in putting in the suspense. Something Madhavan did in YN, he walked with the suspense around him. But not faulting Prasanna entirely, script has to work well too. He was good in the climax. Pretty good.
So, there you go. See it, but don't feel shortchanged if you feel you have seen the film before.
By the way, director bro, what's the deal with the snake?
Edit - As I informed Joe, the director could have done it for financial reason. It could be sold in in US, if not theatrical release at least as direct to DVD, and still make money.
