Actor-producer K Balaji passes away

Noted actor-producer K.Balaji (74) passed away at Appolo hospital in Chennai on Saturday evening a round 4.30 pm.
He was suffering from kidney problem and was admitted to hospital about two weeks back. He underwent kidney transplant twice and was hospitalised following a lung infection.
He passed away on Saturday, following multiple organ failure and a heart attack. He is survived by only son Suresh Balajee and two daughters Sujatha and Suchitra. His wife Anandavalli had died in 1995. Malayalam superstar Mohanlal is his son-in-law.
The veteran producer has over 50 films to his credit, many of which have been remade from Hindi and Telugu films. He entered films by doing small roles and started his career with Avvayaar in 1951 playing the role of Lord Subramaniam.
The actor formed Balaji Nadaga Mandram, which served as a launch pad for many veteran actors to the film industry including Nagesh. He has also worked as production manager in Narasu Studio, where he became acquainted with Gemini Ganesan, Savitri and Sivaji Ganesan.
He started Sujatha Cine Arts in 1996 and made memorable films with then veteran top artists like Devika, Savithri, Bhanumathi, Gemini Ganesan, KR Vijaya, Sivaji Ganesan, He has produced many blockbusters like Thee, Viduthalai, En Thambi, Neeethi, Savaal, Deepam, Vazhve Mayam, Billa among many others.
He has also done villain and characters roles and his screen presence and dialogue delivery were a class apart. He was also instrumental in giving larger-than-life image to actors like Rajinikanth and Kamal Hassan.
However after his wife’s death, Balaji had kept away from producing films.
