Well well ! It was grandly picturized. But best choreography ? The fire swingers (silambam) were not in tandem , you can see some of the silambams 'off'. The guys swinging the 'fire' from their hair (on the sides of the tank) were absolutely wayward. The choreography was natural in the sense that you don't see Thiruvizha dancers with German engineering precision.
The song had all the Madurai-Ramnad dance types brought in. It brought out cultural aspects never shown on screen before. But I would be reluctant to award synchronization points for it even though (or perhaps because) it was by best Tamil moviemaker who ever breathed air .
Prabhu, that was why I was hesitant at first to write my whole list. I suppose I wanted to take the word 'coreograph' to mean picturisation, not limiting to dance steps, but cinematography, etc.
I like Virumaandi form the very reasons you mentioned- the lack of German precision. The dancers look like what they are- festival dancers and not film dancers. The dude with the fireworks hair is a great touch (he also had a few seconds in Dhevar Maghan. IF I SEE HIM IN ONE MORE MOVIE, I'LL START A FAN CLUB FOR HIM). It looks chaotic, unplanned, wild, frenzied!
LOVE IT!!!
