Default How much does an artist's message matter to you?
Yo~

Pretty self-explanatory, but for those that don't understand, I mean how much of your opinion of an artist is affected by their beliefs/what they sing about, etc.

For me...it matters sometimes, but usually not too much. Freshman year when I was fresh out of catholic grade school, people would show me all these crazy bands like Cradle of Filth, and I still had all that religion bullshit in my head, so I was like nah...that stuff is way too over the top. I had one Cradle of Filth CD given to me, pretty tame compared to what I listen to currently, but I'd put that in my CD player and couldn't stand it. At first I didn't really like bands that brought religion into the picture, and sometimes I still think it's stupid, but now I don't mind too much.

Or a more recent example, ICP, since their whole gimmick is now about God, I really haven't listened to them much.

Most of the time I don't care though. There are black metal bands with Nazi influences and shit, but I'll still listen to it, it's not like they're really Nazi's, they're just trying to do something else for shock value.

It's nice to find an artist that expresses things you believe in, but you won't always find bands that you enjoy musically and agree with lyrically.
