I hope that the end result is a slick, well produced movie (as opposed to tacky and ramshackle). The look and feel of the whole film will always play a vital role in any historical film.

I must say Barathi was a pleasant film to watch, but watching Sayaji Shinde play Barathi didn't sit comfortably with me. It comes down to familiarity with the language. I have no qualms about a non Tamil actor playing a character like Barathi (although i would prefer a Tamil one), but it was pretty obvious that Shinde wasn’t familiar with Tamil.

And will Periyar burst into song? I hazard to think.....


PS. As Joe said, Nadigar Thilagam showed interest in playing Periyar, but the project with Kalaignar didn't eventuate.
