Since, I can't find a Sathyaraj thread, I am going to treat this as one.

Watched Anbudan (Gouthami) last night (Thanks NOV for thinking of me and reminding me).

And I knew we are in for a great treat when Sathyaraj was shown first...waiting for the host.

She comes in, show starts, and with Sathyaraj you know that you are in for great fun.

The man is casual, self deprecating, humble, modest, and of course, very funny. Knowing his history in the cinema field (almost thirty years now) it takes time for it to dawn on you that he has been part of the large landscape called Tamil film industry.

He did not go on and on about Periyar. Any other actor would have gloated and boasted about their 'different' or 'challenging' or 'risky' role.

He just shrugged it off, saying that he wanted to...and never thought he could pull it off. But when the director convinced him, he became confident.

There was a brief discussion on atheism and I could relate to most of what he is saying, even though I am an agnostic, not an atheist. I agree with him that people should be left alone with their individual faith.

Along the way we got to know the secret behind Tagudu Tagudu.

And of course, his complete disregard for 'image'. At Kamal's age and four years younger to Rajini, he played the former's grandfather and the latter's father around the same time (mid 80s). Therefore image had not bothered him.

Or his 'charity' side which , again, he just shrugged it off saying that it is his duty .

Director Raj Kapoor steps in in the final segment of the show and laugh-o-meter shoots right up. I like the way he calls Sathayraj "Namma Talaivar". I know it is just in fun...nothing serious.

I can see why Sathyaraj keeps getting jobs...it's just that he is fun to be with. This, we could see from Raj Kapoor's testimony.

Here is one unique survivor of the industry. I am not expecting NT or Kamal level performance in Periyar. If it is well written and directed, Sathyaraj can deliver the goods.

If not, it will be the most satisfying to him personally as an actor...and something for fans of his, like me, to talk about.

I usually do not want to meet stars. Of course, I had wanted to meed MGR and NT...but too late now. Right now, I really love to meet Kamal and Sathyaraj (not Rajini, even if I am a fan).

I hope I will one day.
