Whenever there are political uncertainties that will bring Pakistan ranged against US, the army will withdraw to the background and allow civilian Govt. in Pak. They serve the limited purpose and recede to the background and army takes over again. This has been happening for long in that country. When the civilians are ruling, India talks with them endlessly. When army rules it talks to India. Army has to frequently flex its muscles to justify its existence. Some times it hurts India successfully by inflicting a Kargil and sometimes gets a severe drubbing from India like in Kashmir or B.Desh. The storyline is too familiar and is boring. Now it is time for civilians there to withdraw from the scene and it is time for Army to play hero.

Afghanistan is a different story-a pathetic one.
