The reason as to why the Dravidian parties have not had major success to push on this is because of their self proclaimed affinity to atheism which makes them as third parties to the whole issue. Yaa! They are certainly in no vantage position. Some time back, I was listening to a religious lecture by a swamiji and he touched upon this subject. Alluding to the Dravidian parties, he asked: "They say there is no God, then what for - they talk of archanai? For whom is this archanai and what difference would it make.?" Thus their moral authority to talk of archanai language is betrayed by their position of atheism.
Last Sunday, I was at the kumbabishegam...in Singapore. The gurukkaL sang "PeRRa thaaithanai maka maRanthAlum" poem by Ramalinga SwamigaL. There were other devaaram songs too, sung in naattaikuRinchi, bhaivavi and other raagas. The crowd was mixed - Tamils, Malayalees, Telegus, Hindi speakers and some Chinese men and ladies. The main ubayadhar, a Malayalee, did not object to Tamil and did not ask for MalayaLam. Everything went on smoothly. The interim speech by the gurukkaL was in Tamil for about half an hour.
I read in a book that when Karunanidhi was CM he signed an order for both Sanskrit and Tamil. I understand this continues in TN.
As to access to the sanctum, it is even more dangerous to allow this now for the public - since terrorism is looming large everywhere. It is easy to hide bombs inside - isn't it? A real security risk. Even those small dustbins in public places like bus stops and railway stns have been removed for security reasons.
Thanks, Jaiganesh.
