As one of the types mentioned in your last line- who had to google to make sense of many parts of your post - I feel like a symptom and a loss-sufferer. The lack of scholars means the lack of pre-digested gist writers for the likes of me who at best have a passing fancy for this sort of stuff (I was going to write "at best have time only for a passing fancy" - but decided not to kid myself).

To not even know what one is losing is indeed quite worrisome.
