It is also at the top of my list of favorites. I think the same song appears in the Hindi movie Hulchul. Music by VS, of course. The music and the tune complement each other very well. Interesting to note that it doesn't figure in Vijayr's favorite VS numbers.

Is it? I don't discern any resemblance at all

OTOH, I believe raathiriyil poothirukkum and andhi mazhai have some in common. It becomes clear if you sing the former first followed by andhi mazhai.
