Very good point about the consequences for the reality of home ownership. Another factor that goes into this is the lack of availability of land upon which one can build a basic home and slowly add rooms.
Now one is forced to buy either an apartment, an excessive mansion in a development (with effectively no yard) or the land upon which one is only allowed to build (and must build fairly quickly) a specific, enormous house.
The older generation criticise us for 'wanting' this but in reality we're not allowed to build small crappy houses anymore!!!!!!!!!!
