I wonder how long it will be until Indonesia invades with Chinese backing? It is not a matter of if but when.
A lot have argued that the Chinese have a good deal with Australia, rather than committing to a costly war they can just buy what they want.

Without the deterrent of nukes we are screwed, it must be remembered that the last pm who was an advocate of the production of Australian nuclear weapons was John Gorton. He saw how vulnerable Australia was and still is and wanted Australia to be able to stick up for its own dig without outside help.
Actually John Howard was pro-nuclear power and pro-nuclear weapons, but not many people know his personal view because the Liberals decided that the people didn't want them so it was best to not say anything.

I was in Sydney a few years back and the Centre for Independent Studies mentioned this. The CIS were the major think tank advising the Liberal / Howard government. Interestingly one of their main goals is to boost the white birth rate "to at least sustainable levels", not very PC in these times. This is why I joined them all those years ago since they have the power and the money to get peoples attention. Their 'Policy' magazine is also excellent and the Occasional White Papers really make you think. Their latest White Paper is on the issue of Religion and Freedom and why they don't have to oppose each other.
