All religions are based on clinging to rites & rituals. Many forms of Buddhism succumb to this, not to say of other religions.

Clinging to rites & rituals in conjunction with self-identity views is a potent force to be reckoned with, and that's why religions flourish. It is the grossest of all cravings that very often result in strife and wars.
