The casualties are impressive, but the enemy consider themselves expendable and continue to recruit more expendables. In the equation of cost, a Jihadi may be worth FUNCTIONALLY less than the ordnance expended to kill him. The economic drain on the US military is huge (note the tiny pay raise for next year, the manning cuts in the AF and Navy, etc) and there is no end in sight.

This sort of conflict ends when the terrorists decide it does, so what consequences RELEVANT TO THEM can be brought about that will decide it? Like the Imperial Japanese soldiers who systematically ate Allied prisoners rather than surrender or die of starvation, they aren't quitting until you get their attention.

Consequences to what these Muslims are fighting FOR are relevant. They aren't winning, but they have not lost by a long shot.
