Why is nikah used in the Quran and not the more common Arabic name for marriage (zawag)? Nikah has some vulgar meanings...

Because nikah is not the equivalent of marriage (Isdewaj). Although you find usage of nikah to mean marriage, both historical and the contextual meaning of nikah in Quran refer to sexual intercourse. Ask any knowledgeable, honest and non-muslim Arab, and they'll most likely tell you the same think.

Muslims tend to present Quran as a very complex piece of literature, as if only few people can understand it.
