You say you have mixed all kinds of Buddhism over the years you been a Buddhist. that is in it self a answer i feel

to make sense of Buddhism you have to follow one path, and one Buddha. As i understand the teaching if you mix teachings or take away teachings it can be really difficult to get the answers you looking for
