Buddha is purported to have said 'Be unto yourself your own Buddha'.
The Buddha refered to himself as the "Tathagata" which literally means the one who has "thus gone".

His last words from DN 16 : Maha-parinibbana Sutta may be of interest:


Then the Blessed One addressed the monks, "Now, then, monks, I exhort you: All fabrications are subject to decay.

Bring about completion by being heedful."

Those were the Tathagata's last words
