I can see where she's coming from and I have heard this a lot from people when the subject of suffering comes up. Yet, there is very little that can be done to end external suffering once and for all. If all wars ceased and all were fed, then there would still be terminal illnesses and other nasty stuff. We'd still all age and die in the very best case.

Not saying that compassion and pro-active aid doesn't make any difference, rather it will always have its limits.

Even Buddha couldn't stop himself getting old, sick and dying. We are feasting on this state. It's what brought us here and will continue to do so, unless we drop it. As a mechanism - a process - we're designed to. Suffering is hard-wired to the whole proposition.

I don't know anything about Tolle and (like the lady) I'm non too fond myself of slick modern celebrity gurus with their wealthy entourages. I agree with Trilaksana about her misunderstanding being in the present moment though.

We can't carpet the world but by wearing shoes we have a workable alternative.
