I think its also worth taking into consideration that often people don't give a hoot about "straw men" or debating terminology, they just want to chat about Dhamma with a friendly group of people in a relaxed non-confrontational atmosphere

I think the Beyond Belief subforum is a place where people ought to give a hoot about rules of evidence and fallacies of reasoning, lest they make mere assertions about these rather contentious topics. The rest of the forum is a rather relaxed place; here, the tendency for upset is strong enough that an external structure of objectivity is quite helpful.
