Even when the article talks about engaged Buddhism, as a way to bring awareness about our responsibility with ecosystems, to keep, to protect them, to promote their health, to promote and protect biodiversity in them and cultural diversity with in us, so to keep alive life, this OP has remembered me this:
When I first started to get into "Buddhism" a few years ago I was looking for an statue of Buddha... the one of he touching the earth. I knew that tale or the story about Mara asking Buddha who was going to believe him about such supreme state... and then the Buddha touching the earth told "the earth shall be my witness" and then the Earth, then, swallowed Mara.
I love this image because it reminds two central things about the Buddha.... that he realized enlightenment here and now in Earth; in an intimate relationship with Earth and that the Buddha is not looking at the sky for a God, a father, a saviour... that the work, that the path is here, in this place, at this time, in this planet...
