Oh, come on Bucky. Greece is in the EU, they use the Euro for currency, and the Ancient Greek civilisation influenced the development of the Western World. They are also in the Eurovision Song Contest, but are not likely to win any time soon. I would say that Greece is strictly Western by comparison with the Middle East and the Far East.
You're conflating Ancient Greece and Modern Greece. When the ancient greeks thought of "the West" it was something entirely different than what modern people mean by "the West" In many ways back then, it was all East.

The fact that people claim these terms have been used in argument does not prove that the terms have truly been used.
