I am a simple Zen practitioner. We are just taught "don't attach to
anything
", including the notion of a fixed self. That doesn't mean that there is no self or that there is a self. I am not sure when this idea was presented or who taught it (other than the teachers I have direct contact with). I have found it useful, though.
