This is wrong. A carefull reading of the teachings of the historical Buddha encourages individual development even when we practice with a Sangha. There is no way to develop the same skills in group. Everyone has its own time and conditions so to practice and understandings. But this individual development has nothing to do with the sense of "selfness" that can be found in western therapies or selfishness found in some of them.
