A few probably very ignorant questions that are relevant for this discussion, and that some may be able to answer with evidence: did the Buddha write any suttas himself, or dictate them with a view and directions on how these should be made available and to whom, or was he aware, and to what extent, that his teaching were being recorded with a view of propagating these and did he ever comment on
procedures
that would best be followed in such a process? If so, were these directions about future propagation procedures followed up?
