As of right now, I meditate the way you are taught in Zazen (eyes looking three feet in front of you, eyelids closed as much as possible, but to where you still see the focal point).
I started out practising with Vajrayana and with eyes open and looking slightly inover towards nose. Then later on, I changed to Theravada and talked about my practice with a Theravada abbot and he said that was ok .

Some people prefer eyes closed, others open. Personally I much prefer them open because I'm less likely to fall asleep
