For me its a reminder not to try to hold onto past states, or onto states that I think I haven't achieved, or that might be attainable in the future.... but to just relax with the here and now.
This is of paramount importance in day a day practice of what Buddha taught... so to think in past lives, future realms and such is grasping and loosing the here and now momentum of mindfulness state of mind...
