While I'm not trying to encourage peculiar names, contemporary society at least in North America is quite accepting of them. All you have to do is look at lists of first names being given these days. You won't find many who are ****, Jane, Johnny, and Sally. There is a real trend to exotic names and creative spellings. That being said, an adult who takes on
any
new name is likely to be questioned. Also don't forget that there are many Western saints who are pretty much unknown in most of the Orthodox world. One's own name, as Father David Moser recommends, stands a good chance of already being acceptable.
