Does anyone use one? I'm considering getting one, but most famous ones are incredibly expensive IMO.

My main concerns currently are:

Whether a five-inch drawing space is big enough. The price jump for seven-inch ones is huge IMO, but five-inch on a ruler looks like I've got no space at all. :\
What laptop specs are needed for the tablet to run relatively smoothly. This'll ultimately affect what laptop I buy.
What brands outside of Wacom and Genius are trustworthy and relatively easy to find. Wacom's outta the question for me; Don't need something that good. Genius seven-inches' look usable, but I'm open to alternatives.
