For basic computing, Vista is a kickass OS imo. My old XP desktop got the makeover and I've bought two new computers over the past year with 64-bit editions of Vista. I love Vista; but you definitely need a Windows 7 upgrade. The computer you buy may come with a free upgrade if the manufacturer is participating in the upgrade program.
