When you have worked with spiritual energies do you close down and ground yourself? There are different rituals (for want of a word) which people use.
The same applies when opening up to the energies. Some people feel the need to ask for protection, again in various ways, and they may also perform grounding techniques at the start too.
Doing some research on the net will provide you with lots of examples. Finding one that suits you is the key, as some appear elaborate, in my opinion, whilst others less so. It all depends on what works well for you, so you may want to try a few before deciding on one.
Above all else when working with energy, you are the one who is in control, no one else. Not even your guide.
