does anyone have any advice on honing your ability to see spirits? i don't mean as orbs, etc., but spirits that appear in human-like form.

i had a great experience very recently - my mom had just come over and as we were about to walk into my place, out of the corner of my eye i noticed a spirit behind her. i couldn't see it that well - i only got a sense of its general size, shape, and color. i immediately turned to look at it head-on, but it disappeared. later on, i asked my guide and he confirmed it was my maternal grandmother (i'm not at all surprised she'd be with my mom ).

before this, i'd only ever seen a spirit once - a really scary experience, which kept me from opening up to my spirituality for a long time. i was awakened by the feeling of someone watching me and when i opened my eyes, i very clearly saw this spirit standing over me watching me sleep! it's kind of funny, because it was an older man dressed as a coach in clothes from maybe the early 20th century, so he wasn't really threatening in and of himself, but the experience freaked me out!

anyway, digression aside, i think i've read that it's normal to start seeing spirits in your peripheral vision and you can progress to seeing them head-on. is this true? do any of you have have techniques you've used to help you see spirits better? or maybe i just have to be patient and open to it and let it come in its own time?
