Default Axios! His Grace Bishop Matthias consecrated as OCA Bishop of Chicago and the Midwest
Yesterday, Archimandrite Matthias (Moriak) was consecrated as the OCA Bishop of Chicago and the Midwest. It was wonderful! I'd been my parish' lay delegate to the diocesan assembly in Minneapolis in October where we nominated him, and the Synod canonically elected him in November.

Friday evening was Vespers with Fr. Matthias' profession of faith. Ancient Faith Radio recorded it, and other things at the consecration Saturday morning, as they need a wider audience.

The Vespers and consecration took place at Christ the Savior Church, right next to Diocesan HQ on LaSalle (right across from the Moody Bible Institute, no less!), because the altar at Holy Trinity Cathedral is rather small (it wasn't built as a cathedral).

There were two choirs singing antiphonally. It was wonderful! From where I was in the left choir, I was in a good spot to get a lot of good shots, although I'm short and had to get some photos by holding camera over my head.

Here are some pictures!

The old priest right in front of Bishop Matthias is his 87 year old childhood priest! The new bishop is holding the priest up himself.

Vladyka Matthias wore vestments that belonged to Archbishop Job, of blessed memory. The panagia he wore originally belonged to Bishop John (Martin) of the Carpatho-Russian Diocese, who inspired Bishop Matthias to attend seminary.
