I don't think someone who did something of note should be excluded from history simply because they are gay, but emphasizing them solely because of their sexual preferences seems simply unnecessary.
I'd be interested to know where this has happened. I do know that the "gay" community is wont to name many historical figures "gay" based on some fairly flimsy evidence. What does "sexual preference" have to do with history? Why include a discussion of an individual's sexuality at all? The only reason I can see is to propagandize children into viewing homosex behavior as "normal" and, in fact, praise and note worthy.
