The Declaration really is a phenomenon more than anything. It reflects the struggle American Christians are having with an increasingly hostile culture. It is a step toward disengagement with what is really an anti-culture. We'll see more of this as time goes on. Not so much declarations, but conscious little steps that Christians will be taking, sometimes just in their conscious minds, sometimes more overtly, regarding how to create Christian community along with a willingness to bear some cost. But we have some precedent in home schooling where both Christians and non-Christians risked going to jail to educate their kids apart from the nihilistic public school system.
