Two things I see
1) in the St. Matrona picture (it is not an icon) notice how he has his back to her and is walking away from her as he is walking away from the icons on the wall behind her bed. This is reflected in the Nativity icon where "the old man" always has his back to the Christ child.

2) in the smaller picture...is Stalin really wearing a Bishops Omophorion?
