Dear Effie,

I lived in northwestern Greece when I studied for my masters in Byzantine history, so special greetings. I wonder how many other people on this forum have ties to the region.

I lived mainly in northeastern Greece, and witnessed the destruction of the beautiful pine forests of Thasos (for which marble quarrying firms were blamed). That was bad enough, even though I don't think anybody lost their lives. I don't have words for what is going on now.
