One more thing: the story of the destruction of the great library of Alexandria is not nearly as simple as Mina has suggested. Its collections had been destroyed or dispersed in stages, for one of which the responsibility falls on Theophilus and Cyril, the successive Patriarchs of Alexandria, as well as on a mob of Coptic monks who at the same time murdered Hypatia. It is a sad but true fact that narrowmindedness, ignorance and fanaticism do appear with a depressing regularity in the history of every religious creed, and Orthodoxy is not exempt from this rule.
