Yes, rice is certainly one of the tops and the most well remembered of Thai exports to SG During the global economic downturn last year, there was an article carried by The Straits Times which cited ecomomic rice (aka mixed dishes with rice) stall holders saying that their continuation to provide only the tastier (but more costly, profit-reducing) Thai fragrant rice, rather than using cheaper, non-fragrant ones, even in these difficult times, is because customers are so used to the Thai fragrant variety that they will not want to eat from their stalls anymore if there is a change of rice type.

Rice power, indeed People in countries that hold rice as a food staple may tighten their belts over many other things, but it appears that having to give up that comfort in rice seems the last thing to go.
