Well it's about time Thai's started wearing sunglasses and with a UV filter built in. In Australia it is mandatory for sunglasses to have UV protection, even in cheap sunglasses. Thailand has a bad habit of producing fakes, of good quality brands, these of course have no standards and probably have no UV protection.
I always wear sunglasses during the day while out side or driving, because I don't want cataracts or eye damage latter in life, it's got nothing to do with fashion.
Another note, the pollution in Bangkok or even clouds on a rainy day filters very little UV light, just use a lighter shade of sunglasses if there to dark for the conditions.
