I never thought about whether or not Thais wear sunglasses before I started reading this thread. So now I've been thinking.
My father-in-law always wore prescription sunglasses when outdoors. Mr X wore sunglasses, as did his brothers. I think a lot of Thais I knew who had lived abroad used sunglasses. I don't know if they realized it was more comfortable, or if they thought it was cool to wear them. My sisters-in-law used umbrellas, just as many other Thai women do, or at least did a few years ago.
Just for the record, my eyes are almost black, yet they are super sensitive to light and I keep sunglasses for cloudy days and sunglasses for sunny days.
