all Asians think the same way,,I have had Chinese G/F. in China,,G/F in Viet Nam, Lao, Thailand and they all stay out of the sun as much as possible because darker skin means lower class like field workers or laborers that have to work out in the sun.. So from this post, it seems your G/F must be from a well to do family or she is just putting on the Dog..
But from your post about the new year expenses I would say that the family is not well to do or their daughter was never taught manners or respect.
