I'm from Melbourne as well, and if you read all of this thread you'd realise that skin colour is a non-issue.
All they care about is how much money they can fleece out of you.

I'm from Melbourne as well and the sun isn't nearly so bad in Thailand as here but you will still want to wear a hat and sun-protecting clothes and use plenty of sun screen when you're out in the sun.
