I don't know how the rules would apply to you if your wife is Thai. I found it relatively easy without a Thai wife since I met the age and income requirements. I first got a visitor visa to get into the country and openend an account with the bank of Bangkok. As I withdrew pension money several times each month with my US ATM card I deposited it at the Thai bank and withdrew it again to be able to show activity and get a letter from the bank. I also had copies of my annual pension notification. I needed a physical from the local hospital in Chiangmai and got a letter of recommendation from the US consulate. Once I had my 1 year retirement visa, it was easy to get it renewed at the Chiangmai immigration office. To leave the country for visits abroad I needed a special permit in my passport. All of that for a fee, of course.

We left Thailand after three years for personal reasons.
