Gotta remember too that McDonald's overseas is not seen as low quality junk food in some countries. (it may be, but the perception is slightly different than it is in America) In some countries it's so relatively expensive that it is considered a swanky treat if you get to go there. So they provide a little more localized and sometimes upmarket fare. For example in Germany, it's seen as somewhat pricey american food, and my experience in Thailand has been it's seen as where the rich kids eat. In switzerland, it's almost as expensive as a sit down meal at a nice thai restaurant! When I first got married and visited my wife's village, the kids were amazed when we took them to mcdonalds.... "we get a free toy too? how can you afford this???" :-)
