It reminds me of a great documentary on Australian Broadcasting Corp last year, where a guy was taking trains through SE Asia and talking to passengers on the trains.
In the Thailand section he talked to many migrant workers heading back to Bangkok from the countryside to work in factories. All of them were sad to be leaving their villages. Most of them had tears in their eyes as they were interviewed and every one said that they missed either their families and/or their rice fields. On interviewee actually cried as she said she missed her buffalo.
Really!
