The scammers choose their mark very carefully. They would first obtain personal information from various sources before "running into" their target. When they reveal our personal information to us, we will be very impressed with them. It comes as a surprise as we have never met the scammer before. However, we fail to comprehend the meticulous way they source for information.

The "yogi" incident reminds me of street magic. We are amazed by tricks which are done in the streets in broad daylight. This is because we assume there is no way for trickery to take place compared to a controlled setting eg. theatre. We will not think that the magician has been practising his tricks for umpteenth times so much so that he can literally pull wool over our eyes. It also does not help the mark when the magician/scammer has helpers/accomplices and other tools-of-the-trade.
