Okay, so my Aunt is having a new baby (girl), & she has decided to name her 'Tasika' (after a lakorn character ) and wants her nickname to be 'Kwan'. Now, even though she's Thai, she knows probably nothing at all about Thai, and she was wondering what the two names meant in Thai.

And I was wondering - do Thai last names have a meaning?
Yes, almost all Thai surnames have a meaning. many are unusual and funny even to a farang hearing them.

Several years ago there was a person whose surname was "Praatsajaaksatruu" »ÃÒȨҡȵÃÙ which means "having no enemies" He was in the news because he had been shot dead in a hit job!!

Our next door neighbour's surname is "Lok jarern Laap"
âÅ¡à¨ÃÔ*ÅÒÀ" which can be translated as "Progressive fortunate world

Khwan is a fairly common nickname it ¢ÇÑ* means spirit, or guardian spirit. When used with Khong eg ¢Í§¢ÇÑ* it means "gift"

The hair "whorl" on the head of Thai children is also called a Khwan.

µÊÔ¡Ò A girls name with no meaning as far as I know.
