There is a big celebration today, Sunday the 13th, in Thai Town in East Hollywood. It is not like in Thailand though, with people dumping water on everyone. This is more for farang to come and get a glimpse of Thai culture, and perhaps buy some stuff
That would have been perfect!

I was there last night and got hit with some water after midnight. Some people play around with water fights but I don't think the majority of the farangs here are going to be friendly after they get splashed.
I was invited to a similar gathering in another country, and we, the non-Thais, had been promised that there wouldn't be any water splashing. Otherwise, we wouldn't have attended the celebration. I, especially, was nursing a bad bold and cough at that time. None of us were prepared to get wet. But some idiots broke the agreement and we, the absolutely unsuspecting victims, got drenched to the bone. The incident brought so much ill humor among the guests, and in my case, ill health, too. That's how I started to stay away from Songkran.
